Check Window Direction and Room Sunlight

Compare morning and afternoon sunlight before choosing a desk, plant corner, or viewing time.

Start with one window and one question

Decide what you need to know: whether the window receives direct sun in the morning, when a desk may face the sun, or which time to revisit a room. SunLight shows sun direction, elevation, and daylight phases; its Pro room scene helps preview a chosen window orientation.

Compare three times

  1. Set the location you are evaluating. Use the current location, or map location selection with Pro.
  2. Identify the window’s orientation. If you use the phone’s heading, check that it is stable and consistent with the direction you are facing.
  3. Compare the compass at morning, midday, and afternoon by moving the timeline. Note when the sun is on the window-facing side.
  4. With Pro, use the room scene for a simplified view and any-date planning to compare another season.
  5. Return to the real window at a relevant time and compare the actual light with your expectation.

Use the result for a specific decision

Decision What to compare
Desk placement Which times put the sun in front of the screen or your eyes.
Plant position When the intended corner receives direct sun; inspect the real spot as well.
Viewing a home Pick a visit time that tests the direction and season you care about.
Photography Compare the subject direction with golden hour or blue hour, then check weather separately.

What the preview cannot establish

Sun position does not account for every obstruction. Neighboring buildings, balconies, trees, curtains, window size, and room depth can change the result. SunLight’s room scene is a simplified simulation, not an automatic building survey or a measurement of indoor illuminance. Use an on-site observation to confirm the spot you are choosing.

The app calculates sun position on device after location is available. Map selection, any-date planning, room simulation, and live heading readout are among the Pro features; check the product page before choosing the workflow you need.
